IN THE LOCAL AREA
The Thomaston Building is in the heart of the Great Neck Historic District, part of bustling downtown Great Neck Plaza shopping district. In addition to dozens of often elegant downtown shops, the village offers easy access to such popular visitor attractions as the Great Neck Arts Center, Saddle Rock Grist Mill, Steppingstone Park, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Schools are important in Great Neck; its educational programs are among the most accomplished in the country. Popular dining options include top Italian, Persian, and Asian options, including La Rotonda and Elaine’s Asian Bistro, in this building. Historically, the village is known as the locale where F. In recent years the stylized depiction of a giraffe, used to promote the shopping district, has come to symbolize the chic suburban downtown.
